Many believe kettlebells are one of the best and most versatile pieces of gym equipment. They are also affordable enough that you can buy a pair and use at home.
The kettlebell is the perfect tool for a full body workout. You will not only build power, but you also will burn calories. Below are 5 exercises that will help you build explosive power.
The kettlebell swing. This is the base exercise to begin with. This sets the tone for all other kettlebell movements. With this exercise you will develop your hip and leg muscles. The kettlebell swing trains those muscles to decelerate and re-accelerate. For those athletes who are constantly starting and stopping, this exercise is very important to perform correctly.
Banded kettlebell swings. If you are a more advanced athlete, give this one a try. Once you’ve become accustomed to regular kettlebell swings, you can attach a resistance band to the kettlebell. This will give you more of a challenge and really push your core.
Kettlebell sumo squat jumps. Doing a squat jump is hard enough, now imagine adding a kettlebell to it. You will spread your feet out wider than a normal squat job to begin this exercise. This exercise is great for your hips.
Kettlebell snatch. This exercise is all about driving the weight a long distance. The power in this exercise comes from your hips, knees and ankles. This is a very challenging exercise, so make sure you master some of the other exercises first before trying this one.
Kettlebell push press. The last exercise on this list is for your entire body. To perform this exercise correctly you must generate enough power with your legs and hips for it to transfer to your core and to the upper body. This is another challenging exercise, but one that will strengthen all of the muscles that are commonly used in sports.
