Runners, put your hands together for Denise Benson, our newest Brooks 2017 Inspiring Coach of the Year!

Denise has had success with state titles and all-star athletes; however, her true influence is in getting her teams to battle for something larger than themselves and to focus on growing together. She uses her personal story of overcoming health challenges and a “will never run again” diagnosis to teach, inspire and win the trust of her athletes, ultimately guiding them to be the best they can be as runners and young adults.

“My role as a coach is to help kids become better athletes and, in the process, become better people. I strive to make my them believe their goals are attainable, no matter how extensive, which raises the team to a level of greatness,” said Denise. “Being recognized for that is an honor, and it’s a truly amazing feeling.”

Denise joins Neville Anderson of Athens Academy as the two cross country coaches receiving the Inspiring Coach of the Year Award this year. As an Inspiring Coach of the Year, Denise and Neville will each receive a coveted golden spike trophy, $10,000 in Brooks performance running gear and $2,500 cash for team expenses. They will also receive membership into Brooks’ Inspire Daily program and a trip for two to the Brooks PR Invitational.

Congratulations Coach!
