Casting, also known as early release, refers to the early release of the wrists during the downswing (like casting a fishing rod). More than 50% of golfers cast their golf club during their golf swing weakening their impact position and reducing their power and consistency.

To prevent and avoid casting during the golf swing you must develop the following skills

Good wrist flexibility: This is necessary for setting the club during the downswing.
Good grip strength: Good forearm and grip strength is important to set and hold the club properly.
Good hip mobility: If the hips are unable to rotate, the body will have to compensate by initiating the downswing with the upper body.
Good core stability and strength: A lack of core stability and strength will limit the golfers ability to initiate the downswing with the hips leading to compensations such as coming over the top and casting.

The following exercises will help you work and develop these skills:

Wrist stretches
Uneven load hold
Deadlift to rotation
Bird Dog
